Angelica is often ridiculed because of her height. She was shorter than most kids when she was younger, but her height was a lot more noticeable in high school. She was only five feet tall and the rest of her the students grew to be about 5'4". It’s been one of her insecurities all her life but soon observed that she wasn’t the only one. Angelica had long hair for almost her entire life, but cut it short in January, as her New Year’s resolution was to be able to face the fact that things are changing, and she needed to accept that. She almost died it blonde, but her friends thought it wouldn’t suit her so she kept it brown. Her style isn’t very basic, but isn’t that unique either. Other than her personality, she expresses herself through the way she dresses and the way she styles her hair. She tends to wear a lot of graphic t-shirts with cute statement and adorable pictures which then represent her personality. The color of her outfits and her hairstyles often reflect her mood.
Angelica never acts her age. She’s a perky and happy individual, as if she hardly ever has any problems. Angelica usually focuses on the bright side and encourages people to do it, too, much to their dismay. Some people may find her annoying since she’s extremely talkative and has a habit of talking to fast. Most people underestimate her intelligence because of her childish demeanor, when in reality, she’s actually very smart and sometimes gets the highest grades. Angelica is pretty responsible and knows how to take care of herself, especially since she has a younger sister to look after. She fears many things, although she tries her best not to show it. She’s not very tough and is intimidated by many people. Angelica is clumsy, and unlike most people nowadays, cannot register sarcasm and does not understand how it works. She tends to be clever and quick-witted by accident, and apologizes for it.
Born the second eldest, and middle child of the family, Rachelle Angelica Martinez has never been the center of attention. It’s not like she craved it, she just wanted to feel loved and cared for. It was like she never existed. Even before her younger sister came into the picture, it was her older sister, Anna, who got all the praise from her family. After all, she was great at everything. Dancing, painting, any sport- you name it, she can do it perfectly. She was their precious little gem, and Angelica was nothing but a speck of dust. Even her younger sister, Addie, was better than her at most things. She always thought she had no talent at all.
However, in sixth grade, she was asked, along with the rest of her class, to perform a musical. Her classmates were fascinated with her acting and her singing was beyond amazing. At that moment, she knew what she’d soon be passionate about, and what would finally catch her family’s attention. On the day of the play, her parents didn’t even bother to show up, opting to attend Anna’s volleyball game instead. Angela was distraught, leaving her to wonder if her parents even loved her. This motivated her to be a better version of herself. She became less insecure and acted a lot quirkier.
Her new found confidence boosted her grades her number of friends increased by the day. By this point, she didn’t care about her parents. She found comfort in her friends and younger sister, Addie. Even if her annoying persona irritated some people, she didn’t let the negative comments get to her. She kept being herself. When she finally graduated high school, she immediately packed her bags and left home, bringing Addie with her. They were able to rent a great apartment for a surprisingly low price in Lebeaux, where they lived happily and peacefully.
Addie Martinez- Although she seems to hate her family with a burning passion, Angelica makes an exception as she loves her little sister, Addie. Despite their ten-year age gap, they get along quite well and rarely ever fight. Back then, Addie was her only source of happiness when she felt sad and lonely. She still feels quite guilty and selfish for letting her move in with her because she basically dragged her away from her family, which means Addie won't be able to grow up with parents.
Rachel and Thomas Martinez- Angelica claims that her parents are a touchy topic and that she doesn’t want to talk about them when they’re brought up in conversations. She tends to be as polite as possible about it, especially when she’s trying to get to know someone. She has an estranged relationship with them and they have not talked in nearly three years. Just the thought of her parents can change her mood completely and she can seem like an entirely different person, so she tends to repress those memories and tries not to dwell on them too much when she can’t sleep at night.
Anna Martinez- Angelica hates Anna with a burning passion. She was jealous of her because she got all the good credit and her parents were constantly proud of her. The blame was never on her and instead on Angelica, even if it wasn't her fault.
