Cali usually doesn't care about what she looks like, her brother even has to fix her hair for her before she leaves the house. She's aware that she's pretty, so she doesn't bother to do anything about it. She rarely wears makeup except for BB cream.
Cali likes to wear clothes she's comfortable in. She's not picky with clothes and can wear anything from crop tops to sweatpants, she can pull it off.
Cali is free-spirited. She likes to enjoy life and live hers to the fullest. She doesn’t like to be pinned down at one place. She’s adventurous and loves nature. She hates it when people try to dictate what she has to do, she especially hates it when people expect too much of her. She does things because she wants to, so if she suddenly starts to change attitude the next time you see her, you can’t hold her down for that, because she will get mad at you. Cali may seem really absentminded and forgetful, but she’s actually really smart and independent. She can adapt very quickly. She does tend to get easily distracted, often found daydreaming and staring off the distance.
Maria Calista Jiao was born on the 28th of October 1996 to Frank Jiao and Katrina Alcante-Jiao. She is the second and youngest child of the family. Frank and Katrina didn’t have a favourite child so both Rafael and Cali were treated equally. They were a happy family, the family was close with each other and had strong bonds. Cali had a really fun childhood, she got along fine with their neighbours and their kids, there was also the fact that she and her brother were basically connected at the hip despite him being a few years older. She was such an obedient child and always did what her parents told her, her brother was the same which was why the family was so close. They all trusted each other.
Cali was a diligent student during her elementary days. She was always received high grades and was on top of her class. She didn’t have any particular problem with making friends or being social. Everything was perfect. That was until her parents began expecting more.
During high school, Cali began spending more time with friends and going to parties rather than studying, her grades dropped. Her brother has also moved away for college, so she became even more free to do what she wanted. She dated a lot of guys and experienced a lot of things, like smoking and drinking. She knew her limitations and never went beyond there, she never took drugs or anything. Which was why she didn’t understand why her parents were so against she partying when she tended to stray away from the stuff that she knew was bad. Eventually her parents made it obvious that they were clearly disappointed that she was neglecting her studies. She never minded them and carried on with whatever she liked doing. It was the last straw when Cali almost repeated freshman year because she didn’t submit any projects that was given to her, that was what caused her parents to ground her, yet she still found a way to sneak out and party, which her parents also found out about. She lost her parents’ trust and became rebellious and drifted apart from her parents.
She finished high school barely even passing. She didn’t know what course to take for college, so she took gap year despite her parents’ efforts to get her to take Accountancy. That gap year lasted longer than it was supposed to and her parents began nagging her. Eventually she’s had enough, she contacted her brother who was in Miduna Beach for his job and he took her in. When she got to Miduna Beach, she spent months just roaming around and getting to know the place. She met a lot of people but never really kept track of them. After eight months of aimlessly going around, she found her way to Barfield Cafe and saw that there was an opening. Since she had nothing better to do and she needed to earn money, she applied and got in.
Currently, she works at Barfield Cafe and trying to figure out what she really wants to do in life.
Frank Jiao and Katrina Alcante-Jiao are Cali's parents. She used to have a really good relationship with them, they were close with each other. She was even a daddy's girl when she was younger and it was her mother who taught her how to play the flute. But then after her elementary years they began having high expectations for her, which she didn't particularily liked. Eventually Cali began rebelling against her parents and they all drifted apart. She left their house in 2015 when she's had enough of their nagging, and her brother took her in. Her parents still occassionaly check up on her but she refuses to talk to them.
Rafael Douglas Jiao is Cali's older brother. These two are inseparable when they were younger. Despite their age gap of five years, these two got along really well. Cali considers her brother her best friend and vice versa. Even when Rafael left to go to Miduna Beach, the two never lost contact and frequently video called each other or texted. They always had each others backs and trust each other more than they trust themselves. Cali was the first person who knew about Rafael's sexuality, and he was the first person she called when she left home.
Brandon Marfori is Cali's brother's boyfriend. They get along surprisingly well. They even have weekly movie marathons after Brandon's shift at the hospital.
Cali can play Under the Sea on the flute, and that's basically the only thing she can play on the flute despite her mother's various attempts to teach her others songs.
She cannot speak Korean nor Chinese despite her parents' ancestry, they never really tried to teach her nor her brother how to speak their languages.
During her elementary days, people called her Maria. In high school, people called her Calista which eventually shortened to Cali.
