Jason was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the second child to Gianna and Howard Riddleman. He had an older brother named Luke, who was born fourteen months before he was and then two years later, a younger brother named Tyrone, and then a sister named Samantha. Jason was always close with his siblings, and up until he went to school, he'd spend most of his time with them and their family friends. They spent a lot of time hanging out in parks and playing different sports. He also used to go out camping each year and would help his dad by taking care of the garden when his dad wasn't feeling well.
He has since grown up, and after going through school and making a few friends, then eventually going to college to major in landscape architecture after his design teacher recommended it to him. Jason grew to love the course, despite all the stress it caused him, and he stuck it through, working a few waiter jobs before he graduated. While he was working, Jason befriended one of the other waitresses there, a girl named Jenna, who was almost too clumsy to function. She was fired shortly after she threw a tantrum and broke a few plates, and Jason assumed that would be the last he ever saw of Jenna.
It wasn't until a few years later, that he ran into her again, barely recognizing her through a new haircut and dye. He asked her out to lunch, and one thing led to another until they ended up getting married in November 2011, much to his family and friends' dismay, considering Jenna wasn't the most emotionally stable person, and on a few occasions she had threatened to kill him while they were arguing. Still, Jason, who still had some benefit of the doubt that she wasn't completely crazy, ignored them. They had a daughter the next year, on the 3rd of September, and named her Brooklyn Jade.
Unfortunately for Jason, things didn't start going great after Brooklyn was born. Jenna's psychotic mood swings led to her occasionally threatening to kill Brooklyn and Jason, and sometimes herself. Jason struggled to maintain a job and raise Brooklyn and take care of Jenna, so he started sending Brooklyn to daycare, hoping it would take some of the stress off Jenna. Her mood started to settle a little bit, but Jason quickly grew tired of her constant criticisms and complaints, which were almost certainly followed by tantrums if he ever objected. Jason started to question why he ever married Jenna, but tried to remain faithful to her for the sake of Brooklyn.
Things finally escalated in August of 2014, when Jenna told Jason that she was filing for divorce and that she never wanted anything to do with him or Brooklyn ever again. Jason was in a state of shock for a while, and he spent a bit of time trying to work out how he was going to explain to Brooklyn that her mother didn't want to see her anymore. Thankfully, his younger sister, Sam, decided to fly out for a week, taking care of Brooklyn while he tried to work out what to do now that Jenna was gone. He started picking up all the pieces, trying to decide whether it would be better to start fresh in a new suburb or to stay in the one place. He eventually decided to sell his house, still not sure of where he was going to move when he did.
It wasn't until the 'For Sale' sign went up out the front that Jason realized just how closely Jenna had been keeping an eye on him and Brooklyn. On more than a few nights he'd hear a very distinct muffler noise stopped out the front of his house, and on a few occasions, he could swear he heard his wedding song playing on the radio. Three weeks after this, he got a call from Brooklyn's daycare, who had been made aware of the situation, that Jenna had shown up and tried to take Brooklyn home. Jason decided that Jenna was too dangerous to leave Brooklyn around, so he decided to take Brooklyn somewhere safe while he could sort things out.
Jason is very trusting and loyal - to a fault sometimes. He has trouble seeing the bad in people, and in some instances, it's come back to hurt him. However, this also makes him a very nice person to be around. He's confident and chatty on the exterior, hiding his struggles from most people, but at times he can come off as apathetic, usually when he gets exhausted or mentally drained. He also tends to be self-pitying, and from time to time, he blames himself for being the reason Jenna ended up the way she is, but Brooklyn usually has a way of snapping him out of it. To him, family is one of the most important things and he would do anything for them.
|I've been considering bringing in a plot about Sam's brother for a while and never did anything and now I'm like yeah cool I should actually do this.|
