Maggie is very outgoing, bubbly and a cheerful person to be around. Growing up she was a bit of a flower-child hippie and her parents had a strong influence on her, letting her do whatever she wanted. Being a Leo, she liked the freedom she had, getting to be in charge of her own life and making her own decisions. She does have a bit of a stern side to her, not liking when things change in a way she didn't want them to. She can cling onto memories of things, and usually holds these above actual experiences with people. She also started practicing Buddhism in her senior year of high school, although she doesn't consider herself a real Buddhist because she still smokes weed from time to time.
Maggie was born in 1996, to Celeste and Dusty Carter, with the full name Magnolia Meadow Carter. She loved her name up until fourth grade when a group of kids made fun of her for having a stupid name, and since then she's gone simply by Maggie Carter, except to her parents. She also had an older brother, who went by the name Ty after his parents named him Thyme. While her parents had grown up home-schooled and lived in caravans their whole life, they decided that their children should get to experience the modern world as well as the world they were raised in. As such, they lived in Miduna Beach during the school year, and over every summer, they would go on a family road trip where they spent their time living in a tent. Even though her brother Ty didn't like camping, Maggie loved it. She loved the freedom she had, she loved getting dirty in the mud and she loved showering under waterfalls.
Still, she did love school as well. She liked how there were always people around to talk to, and she never had a problem with it. She was really good at art, and she had a special talent for paying attention to detail that not many other students shared. Unfortunately things started to change as she got older, when people would start picking on her for her name, or for her hair being too frizzy, to name a few. A few of her friends also stopped inviting her to parties after she admitted a few times that she didn't have crushes on boys, but that instead she liked girls. They called her a lesbian, even though she didn't know what that meant.
Eventually, her parents explained what it meant and told her that some people thought there was something wrong with that, but that they'd love her anyway. Maggie was a bit happier with this, but still asked if she could change schools when she was fourteen and her tormentors continued to make her miserable. She transferred to Barfield High School and went there for a few years. She also made a new friend in a girl in the year below named Juliette whose dad died the year before. She sat by and watched as Juliette drifted from relationship to relationship, sleeping with people for comfort, and while she wanted to intervene, she knew there wasn't much she could do. She eventually offered to take Juliette out on her family road trip over the summer of 2011, and while they were out, Maggie admitted that she'd had a crush on Juliette for a while. Juliette, who was unfamiliar with people having actual feelings for her, initially thought that Maggie just meant she wanted to have sex with her, however they ended up dating for five months, even while back at school, right up until Maggie's parents revealed that they were going to move to a smaller house closer to nature after her brother moved into a new apartment. While Juliette offered to move in with them, Maggie told her that she had to stay put, but that she'd make sure to come back and visit whenever she could.
From 2012 until 2014 she lived in a small town four hours outside of Barfield, and while she did love it there, especially considering she was surrounded by nature, she missed her old friends and seeing her brother all the time. She made plans to go to Desmond and get an arts degree, moving in with her brother until she could get her own apartment, and she started in the the fall of 2014. She got a job at the Health Bar on campus, and met a co-worker named Jemima who was looking for a new roommate, so she jumped at the opportunity. Both of them ended up getting along really well, and Maggie started to realize she had a crush on her, and luckily for her, after she admitted it at a party, Jemima confessed that she also had a crush on her, and they've been dating since mid-October.
