Nayana is a very pretty girl, with naturally straight hair inherited from her mother's side of the family. She usually wears a comfortable shirt, jeans and some sneakers when she's going out, and during the cooler months she'll wear her ex-husband's big jackets because they keep her warmer.
Nayana is a very confident and strong-minded individual, who's never been one to shy away from saying what she wants. She's also competitive and loves any chance to compete with someone, whether it's a debate, a bet or a race. One of her main hobbies is fitness and a lot of the time she'll use it as a release from things. Also, while most of her friends while she was growing up were guys, she was never really interested in flirting with any of them. She gets very easily frustrated if people try to patronize her or treat her differently than they do to others, and she's quick to speak up if she thinks she's been treated unfairly.
Still, her regular demeanor is usually just her being the easy-going, chatty person who likes to joke around with her friends. She has quite a dirty sense of humor, which she shares with her mother, and she's fairly quick-witted when she needs to come up with a response. This was the main thing that changed in her while she was grieving the loss of her husband, and it took her a while to be able to put on a smile. Nayana has always been a genuine, honest person, and if she's hurt, she's not good at hiding it.
Nayana grew up in Barfield in a working class family, and they never had to worry much about money thanks to a load of inheritance on her father's side of the family. Her mother was actually the second wife of her father, after his first wife died in 1982. She knows she has three half-siblings, but she has never met them in her life. She spent a lot of time with her mother as a child while her father was working, and although she knew her father wouldn't approve of it, she would always ask her mother if she could go out to the park with the other boys and play with them.
From a young age, she always loved sports. She also loved when all the kids at school would tell her dirty jokes and she would go home and tell them to her mother only for her mother to laugh and her father to tell her it wasn't ladylike of her. She was also very bright in school, despite never studying and not being overly motivated with her career choices. She knew she wanted to get a property up in the mountains like her Uncle Norm, but she never thought twice about how she was going to afford it.
She also got selected for a lot of sports teams in high school, but seeing as she could only take up two, she joined the track and athletics team as well as the baseball team. She could have easily made captain of the baseball team, but unfortunately for her, her coach was still very bigoted and didn't think a girl could do it, let alone a Hispanic girl, so he chose the next best boy. Nayana eventually told her mother about it, who marched her down to the principal's office to tell him about what the coach had said, and after getting him fired, Nayana has never let anyone mistreat her since.
She also befriended a few guys in high school, including Josh Stamos (who has since disappeared off the map) and her future husband, Philip Hawke, who initially asked her to sit with his friends after she managed to pitch a no-hitter at baseball practice, impressing all of them. She finally graduated high school in 2007, finishing fourth in her grade, and undertook advice from her mother that she should do a course in hospitality until she decides what she wants to do, because there are always jobs in hospitality. She enrolled in a two year course while most of her male friends decided as a group to join the army together.
Slowly but surely, they all started to drift apart, however, Nayana made sure to make time for her friend Philip, who had started to become a bit depressed being away from home for so long. Every time he went on leave, the two of them would spend as much time as they could together, except when Philip was busy spending time with his girlfriend Alicia. Nayana also decided to get a job, this time deciding to join the fire department so she could help out like all of her friends were.
After six months of Philip and Alicia maintaining a long distance relationship, they eventually broke up, and while trying to help him get over it, she somehow ended up sleeping with him, making things awkward between them for a while. He obviously returned to the army, and while they were apart the two of them had plenty of time to think on their feelings, before eventually deciding that they were the closest either of them had to a relationship. They started dating long-distance, and after a year, Philip proposed to Nayana, saying that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Nayana obviously agreed and much to the dismay of her father, she married him a year later on the 28th of April, 2011, and the two of them bought a house up in rural Blackwood Mountain. Nayana got a second job, bartending at Specks to help pay for the house, and the two of them adopted a Kelpie cross pup and named him Flick, so he could keep Nayana company while Philip was overseas.
Their happy family life was short lived, after Nayana received news on October 18th that her husband had been killed in action in Afghanistan. She was devastated by the news, and for a month she didn't leave the house, with her mother dropping by daily to help take care of her and making sure she kept working through it. Her father even came by a few times and offered to go drinking with her, seeing as he didn't know any other way to reach out to her.
She slowly started piecing her life back together, first returning to her job at the bar, then meeting up with her firefighter friends every weekend for lunch, occasionally meeting up with some of her old high school friends who were still in the army and also felt bad about Philip dying. After six months off duty, she returned back to her job at the fire department, and started going for 3 mile runs with her dog every day. She's now picked up a normal routine again, occasionally going on dates that her friends have set her up with, however she has trouble making a relationship last for more than a month.
Most of her friends are people she knows from work.
|To be completely honest I started making this up as I went, and the more I wrote, the more I fell in love with her. What originally started as me trying to find an FC who could fill in as the older sister for another OC I was planning, I saw Monica and I was tempted to make her the older sister, before deciding to make her completely independent from that and now she exists because we need more older characters and I really love her.|
