Nivedita was always one of the tallest people in her grades, a genetic trait she received from her father. She comes in at just under 5'10" although she rounds it up to that. She also developed a strong interest in fashion while traveling the world, and developed a broad fashion sense which she usually gets complimented on. She combines wardrobe from both Western culture and her own Indian heritage, depending on the occasion. She's also known to randomly clear out her old wardrobe and replace it with brand new clothes when she grows bored of them, although she does have sentimental attachments to some of her clothes.
Moving around from a young age and never staying in one space left Nivedita with a strong wanderlust and also an impatience to do the same thing for too long. She never developed the patience to commit to things which didn’t fully interest her, and as a result she never really picked up any hobbies or skills as a child. It wasn’t until she was older when she did things for fun and started college, switching around to different courses whenever she got bored that she actually found something she was good at because it was constantly changing; stage production.
Although some people would call her vain and selfish, she’s always considered herself her first priority. Her parents, while they acted with good intentions, had this idea of how Nivedita should act, and for a while she spent time trying to act that way to fit in. She remained quiet and mousy and would always nod and agree with them as a sign of respect. She stills acts this way when she’s around them, and she’s never truly built up the nerve to tell her parents (or other people) what she really wants in life. To the people who are willing to listen, however, she can become loud and boisterous. While she doesn’t make jokes a lot, she has a very dirty sense of humor and will laugh at things that people would never expect her to find funny.
Nivedita also has a subconscious rebellious streak, which she knows is bad, but she’s never been able to control it. If someone tells her not to do something or that she can’t do something, she’ll become irritated and angry, and she’ll go out of her way to try and do it. This was especially relevant in college after she found out that she had been arranged to be married, and she spent the first few weeks afterwards getting drunk and sleeping with strangers. She constantly reminds herself that she only did this because she was drunk, mainly because she’s afraid to admit that there are bitter and spiteful sides to her personality.
Nivedita was born in New Delhi, in 1988, and from a very young age her parents would regularly take her traveling, visiting places all around the world. By the time she was seven, she had stepped foot on every continent except Antarctica, even though that was one of her biggest wishes. Her parents were obviously very wealthy, however, and typically stayed in penthouse suites. One day, a very curious Nivedita asked her parents why they never had another child, only for them to reveal that she was born via a surrogate mother due to her mother being barren. While Nivedita initially reacted badly to the news, she eventually was given the opportunity to sit down and speak with her birth mother, before deciding that she was happy with her parents.
As she went to school, and her parents paid for the best schools wherever she went, she found herself easily distracted, quick to get bored of something, and unlikely to commit to anything for long. It didn't help that her parents had begun moving around to different cities every year, or that they moved out of the country, to Canada, when she was thirteen. For a while, she lived in the bilingual province of New Brunswick. Despite her parents wishes, Nivedita refused to learn French as she complained that she didn't see the need because she'd move soon anyway.
While her parents didn't like her logic, she was right, and they moved in 2003, to a small town named Lebeaux. Fortunately for Nivedita, she finally had something constant in her life, and her parents promised they would not leave Lebeaux until after she graduated high school, opting to send her to Harrington Grammar School. Unfortunately for her, she wasn't as smart as her parents had hoped she was, and she often got bored of the classes she was forced to attend. By 2005, she had been kicked out of Harrington Grammar School for poor grades, an issue which her parents detested.
Finally, when she was eighteen and ready to graduate high school, she found out that her parents had been waiting for her eighteenth birthday to tell her that she was arranged to be married to a boy from a wealthy family back in India, named Dhanesh. Nivedita grew furious at the news, after having become accustomed to a lot of Western ideals and traditions. She blatantly protested the marriage to her parents and said that she wanted to graduate college before she even thought about marriage, which eventually led to a compromise between her and her parents, who couldn't bow out of a marriage arrangement. Nivedita was given the right to choose whichever college she wanted to go to and whatever course she wanted to study, so long as she agreed to marry Dhanesh when she graduated.
Although she had met Dhanesh a few times, and found him to be charming and friendly, she often used the knowledge that she would have to get married after graduation to convince herself to drop out of her courses and pick up new ones a lot. In 2010, she finally picked a course at Desmond College of the Arts, studying stage productions, and after finding that she genuinely loved the course, she decided to stick with it, and reluctantly convinced herself to graduate.
During this time, she also met a police officer named Tanner del Rosario, a police officer who walked her home once when she got too drunk while she was depressed about her impending graduation and the implications that came with that. At first, she just called him around to keep her company, but things quickly became more than that. Although she knew she was supposed to be married, she wanted to feel like she had managed to land herself in a relationship which she chose on her own, and that someone wanted to be with her for a reason other than some arrangement. The summer after her graduation, she flew over to India to marry her husband, knowing that she would be giving up on the jobs she got offered working for a theater company in Lebeaux. She also decided that her relationship with Tanner would finish as soon as she moved back to India.
For a while, she remained quiet about it, pretending to be content, so as not to cause more of a scene than she already had by taking so long to graduate. Her husband, Dhanesh, however, felt bad about it, noticing that she was clearly depressed being stuck in the housewife role, and asked her if there was anything she would rather be doing. When she told him about the theater job she got offered in Lebeaux and how most of her college friends would be working there too, and he took it upon himself to convince her parents to let her move into their Lebeaux property, which was mostly just a holiday house they used to visit Nivedita.
He eventually succeeded, and after surprising Nivedita with the news, she began to realize that maybe he wasn't just marrying her out of formality. The two of them moved over in late August, although both of them know it's mostly just Nivedita's house, seeing as Dhanesh still stays in India to work, and travels back to Lebeaux to see her once every month. This arrangement worked out well for a while. Nivedita enjoyed the freedom she was allowed with Dhanesh, but within a few months, things got lonelier for her. She had the occasional company of her neighbour, Rory, but at times he was too quiet for her liking. After a lot of internal arguing, she decided to call up Tanner, for what was supposed to just be a friendly catch up. Nivedita wasn't counting on how much she had missed being in the company of someone who could make her feel better about almost anything and things escalated once again, even though she knew it was wrong. Now, she promises herself occasional targets, saying that she'll break it off with Tanner by the end of the month, which gets postponed to the end of the year, and then was eventually postponed to the decision that she would break it off when she and Dhanesh decided they were ready to have kids.
Nivedita was born to Annapurna and Radheya Bhaduri, two wealthy people who lived a life of luxury. While they spoiled their daughter with trips and jewels and nice clothes, they were insistent that she never became too big-headed, and they would frequently remind her of how her great-grandfather used to slave away all hours of the day to give them the life they have now.
Although they clash at times, being more traditional, while Nivedita is more progressive, they still all care for each other very much. While they still make Nivedita do things she doesn't want to do, they are understanding towards her reluctance and try to let her have her way in some other aspect.
Nivedita also has a husband, Dhanesh Khan. While she does find him charming and sweet, she still tends to think of him as a stranger, seeing as they've spent less than six months of actually being in the same place together. Nivedita was lucky enough to be able to keep her surname when she got married, on account of being the last of the Bhaduri line.
Rory Bales: is her neighbor, and while he was initially quiet around her, the two of them have slowly developed a friendship, first talking to each other when they would get home at the same time, then occasionally asking for favors from one another, then they would spend some afternoons out on the front porch of Nivedita's house, having dinner together and drinking beers so they wouldn't have to eat alone all the time.
|So, I had a bunch of ideas for Nivedita but basically when it came down to it stuff was just awkward and I don't really know how to RP her and I've got a bunch of other character ideas I'd like to try instead. I was basically planning on getting rid of her in December, then decided against it, but now I'm decided.|
