Pia was never really considered beautiful in South Korea, but in Barfield she is often told that she is beautiful. Pia doesn't really care because she thinks that if someone is worth being friendly with they wouldn't judge her from her appearance anyway.
Pia has always been pretty tall and thin. She eats a lot but she doesn't seem to ever put on weight. Pia dresses in a fairly modern way. She usually wears plaid shirts, holy jeans and a cool hat. Pia always says that her wardrobe is like 90% plaid shirts.
Pia is an enthusiastic, excitable and fun-loving girl. For almost all her life she has been surrounded with friends who care about her. Pia hates social injustice, and believes in equality for everyone. She is one of those people who is friends with literally everyone near her, she has always loved to be around people, even though she can sometimes be oblivious to people taking advantage of her.
When Pia lived in South Korea, she thought that she was really stupid. This was because both her family and school environment were very academically driven, and Pia has always been smarter in more artistic ways rather than textbook ways. At her school in South Korea, she was never even close to top of the class, and she was always told that she wasn’t smart enough. This has led to Pia having minor self-esteem issues. Her self-esteem can fluctuate a lot, though if she is around her friends who know how to deal with it, it isn’t that bad.
As an art teacher, Pia is very creative. She loves everything to do with new ideas and expressing her ideas through art. She also loves teaching, though sometimes she can get too caught up in the actual subject of art and she doesn’t realise that her students have no idea what she is talking about.
Pia was born on the 14th of November, 1991 in Busan, South Korea. When Pia was born her name was Chaerin, but when she moved to America she was forced to anglicise her name to Pia. As a young child, Pia was very happy, she was surrounded by people who she loved and who loved her. But as she became older, she started to feel really stressed because of the pressure that was put on her to succeed academically. Both her school and family environment were very academically serious, and Pia started to struggle with the pressure. Multiple times, Pia asked her parents if she could change schools to a less prestigious school, but they always said no.
When Pia was about sixteen, her school decided to participate in a program that would said nine female students and twelve male students all across South Korea, to the U.S. for an exchange program. Pia thought this sounded really exciting and decided to hand in an application. A month or so later, Pia found out that her application had been accepted. At first, Pia’s parents didn’t approve of the idea of Pia going to the U.S. to study, but eventually they gave in to her begging. Pia’s school was lucky enough to have three students selected from it, two girls and one guy. The other girl who was sent from Pia’s school was Kim Sooyeon (later Lulu Kim), whom Pia did not really know at all, and the guy from Pia’s school was Oh Seungjun (later Billy Oh), whom Pia was actually quite close with at the time.
When the twenty one students arrived in the U.S., they found out that the exchange program was in a place called Barfield, and their dorms were in a suburb in Barfield called Miduna Beach. The girls and boys were split, and put in groups of three in their dorms. Pia shared her dorm with two girls called Dara Kang and Melanie Lee. Pia and Dara instantly became best friends, and Pia also became close friends with Melanie, just not as close as she was with Dara. Pia became really happy in Barfield, and when she had finished high school and was given the choice to stay there or go back to South Korea, she chose to stay. Pretty much all of the other students chose to stay as well.
When Pia graduated high school, she when to university, and a few years later graduated as an art teacher. Pia had always wanted to become a teacher of some sort because she had always loved children. Pia had always been the only child so she never had had a younger brother or sister to look after, but it was he kind of thing she always wanted. Pia decided to become an art teacher because art had always been her main strongpoint. Pia has now moved out of the dorms, and she now lives with two of her friends from the exchange program, and another friend whom she made Miduna Beach.
Pia has had several relationships over the years with both boys and girls. She has never really felt uncomfortable or ashamed of her sexuality as her family and friends have never really minded. When Pia told her parents that she liked guys and girls, they didn’t really mind, in fact, they thought it was a good thing. In the future, Pia would like to settle down, get married and have children, though it is not her priority right now.
