Ricky is rather tall for his age, standing at 5'10" at only 15 years old. He's pretty lanky, but he does have some physical strength. He's rather pale. He has blonde hair that he usually lets grow out unless someone (usually Ria) makes him cut it. He has deep ocean blue eyes. He usually wears hats with everything. He likes wearing "OBEY" t-shirts and he likes exhibiting swagger in his everyday attire.
Ricky is very vulnerable. Given that his dad died when he was 12 and his mother turned to the bottle to cope and basically left him to fend for himself with Peyton, he basically shut everyone out. He hates letting people in his head. That's why he decides that the best way to keep everyone out is to make sure they hate him. He'd rather know that you don't like him rather than sympathize with him. When you do get under this rather harsh exterior, he can be a really sweet and kind young man. It just takes a lot to get there.
He was born to a happily married mother and father, with an older sister that was already about 5 years old. He and her grew into this loving environment in which they had all that they could ask for. Life was perfect during his early childhood. At some point during these years, he met Ria and they've kept up an excellent friendship.
When he was 12, his father whom he loved and cared for died after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree while delivering a package somewhere. That event singlehandedly made the structure of the Callahan family collapse almost instantaneously. His already easily stressed mother used alcohol to numb the pain and left her kids taking care of her rather than the other way around. At the time, he didn't fully understand what was going on. He just knew that Daddy wouldn't be around anymore.
By the time he reached 13, he started realizing that his mother was an alcohol abuser and that his sister had to put her life on hold to take care of the house. He started to hate his mother for doing this, and he started acting out. He never was the same, although Maria kept him from going off the deep end.
Now, at 15, he's still going on a downward spiral to a life he shouldn't be living. Without Ria (who moved to LA) to keep him from getting worse, he's completely out of control.
Him and Peyton both preferred their dad over the mother.
Ricky only had one friend.
|Maria: "No, but I mean if you could do anything in the world right now with no money, no consequences. What's the one thing you would want to do more than anything?" |
Ricky: "Run away and start over with a friend. But that's too much work."
Basically in that moment, he may have not realized that that's exactly what he would be doing a little further down the line. When Ria left, he felt alone and there was no reason to stick around where he didn't want to be, so after that moment with Peyton, he packed a little bit of clothes and ran away. Where he ended up, I don't know. Is he alive? Maybe. All I know is is that he's definitely trying to make a better life for himself out there. And since that's a positive enough thought, I'll end with that. I liked him, but he just wasn't meant to be here long. Bye Ricky.
