Note: This was fun. This is also just a story-style thread because it just works better that way, mkay. Enjoy and also be ready to wait like another fifty years for the next rp. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Ruby walked into the Red Dragon Express with her husband slowly walking inside behind her. He was tired from a long day at work and was moving slowly, which was annoying Ruby since she wanted to quickly get inside the restaurant. She had been avoiding the place for months, but she had given up and decided to drag her husband along with her. The hostess seated them at their tables and Ruby and her husband sat across from each other. She was barely glancing over the menu when the waiter came over to take their drink order. Immediately, she recognized him as the young man she had previously met who she swore up and down could possibly be her son. She kicked at her husband's leg underneath the table, which created an annoyed grunt from him.
The young man introduced himself as Gan just as his nametag read and as Ruby recalled. Ruby and her husband ordered their drinks. As soon as Gan left, Ruby leaned over towards her husband. "That's him," she said in a hushed voice. "I swear it is. He even looks like his father!"
"Honey, I doubt it. Mingan could be a popular name where he's from," Emmett, her husband, replied. He pulled his phone out of his pocket at the sound of a text message. He grumbled something and placed his phone down on the table. Emmett leaned forward too and rested his elbows on the tabletop. "Why would he come from another country to this city? What's here that he's so interested in?"
"Maybe he's trying to figure out his past," Ruby quickly stated.
"You don't even know anything about this kid. You don't even know where he's from."
Ruby leaned back against the booth; her mouth closed tightly shut. She looked away from Emmett and towards the bar area where a few people were sitting around drinking. Her arms crossed over her chest and her right leg crossed over her left. A loud sigh came from Emmett as he noticed this in her.
"Why are you mad at me?" he asked, shaking his head.
"I'm not mad at you."
"Yes, you are! You crossed yours arms and I can just tell you crossed your legs too. That means you're pissed at something and right now, it's me."
Ruby said nothing to his response. Instead, the couple sat there in silence as they waited on Gan to return with their drinks. When he did, they also went ahead and ordered their food. The couple continued sitting in silence as Emmett felt the anger radiating off Ruby. His phone on the table began ringing and he grumbled, glancing at the caller I.D. "Shit, this is one of my really important clients," he said, immediately starting to stand up to go outside. "I've got to take this." Ruby waved him off and Emmett quickly went outside. A few minutes later, he returned but didn't take a seat at the table. "I've got to go. My client needs to talk to me about something awfully important," Emmett told her.
"You can go," Ruby said, not looking over at him.
"Get them to put my food in a to go box. I'll eat it when I get home," he told her. He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead. "You'll need to call a cab to-"
"Yes, I know," she grumbled, waving him away. "I know what to do."
"Love you," he said before giving her a quick kiss on the lips this time.
"Love you too," Ruby said as he was already walking away from her. She sighed and leaned back against her seat. "Just perfect," she muttered under her breath.
In a matter of a few seconds, Gan arrived with the food. He placed the food on the table. "Hope you enjoy your meal," he said.
"Could it be possible for you to bring some to go boxes? My husband had to leave, so I'll just need this to go," Ruby said.
"Yeah, of course," he replied, already leaving to go get her two boxes. He returned and placed them on the table for her. "Is everything alright?"
"He just had to leave for a work related business affair," she replied, leaning forward and placing her hand against her forehead. "He does this all the time honestly. I'm not even surprised anymore."
"Oh, I'm sorry about that," Gan said, frowning. "I can help you put the meal into containers and such."
"That'll be nice. Thank you," Ruby replied, a slight smile coming across her face.
Gan sat down across from her and started putting the food into the different little containers he had also brought out to the table. Ruby was still sitting there with her hand against her forehead, still feeling a bit stressed. She sighed and chuckled a bit to herself. "You know what, Gan," she said, looking up at him. "I think I really need a drink."
"What can I get you?"
"I need a mango margarita."
Gan nodded his head and left to get her drink. He returned with the drink and Ruby took a sip of the drink. Gan left and would check back in occasionally, sometimes getting her more to drink when she asked. She was starting to feel better already, even if she knew it was a mistake for her to be getting drunk in public while she was on her own. It was also a Thursday night and she would have to go to school the next day and teach her classes. These thoughts among others slowly crept through her mind, but it wasn't much of a matter to her as she thought about how annoyed she was at her husband. Nearly an hour later, Gan returned and asked if she needed her check. She nodded her head yes. He came back with the check and handed it over to her.
"Do you need me to call you a cab?" Gan asked.
"That would be magnificent," she replied, nodding her head. "Absolutely and doubtlessly magnificent."
Gan nodded his head and left to make a call to the cab company. He returned soon after and sat down at the booth across from her. "There should be a cab here in about fifteen minutes," he told her.
"Wonderful," Ruby said. Without a second though, she leaned forward towards Gan. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," he replied, deciding it was probably going to be a silly question based on her current state.
"Where are you from?"
Gan raised his eyebrows at the random question. "Well, I'm from this place near Alberta, Canada. It's a Native American reservation called the Blood Tribe," he answered.
Ruby laughed and snapped her fingers, and pointed them towards him. "I knew it! I knew it! I told my husband and he didn't even believe me!" she exclaimed. She moved her arms back down to her sides and chuckled to herself. Meanwhile, Gan glanced around a bit, uncertain of how exactly to respond to her reaction. "See, I knew you had to be from there," Ruby said, looking back towards him. "I've been there before. Had an unbelievable time there. Everything that happened there was so ludicrous and unlike me."
"Okay," Gan said. He began to get up from his seat, but Ruby wanted him to sit back down.
"No, no, no, no," she hurriedly said, motioning him to stay seated. "I have another question for you."
"I'm not sure if that's the best idea."
"Oh, what was his name... I know his name, but sometimes I just... I just forget it. It's really not always a name I want to remember," Ruby said, trailing off from her question. "Oh, your father. Your father's name. I know it."
"Look, ma'am, you are a bit drunk right now and I think I might need to go help -"
"Apisi!" Ruby exclaimed. "That's it! Am I right? I have to be right."
Gan uncomfortably gulped and looked away from Ruby. He wasn't sure how to respond to her, but his mind was quickly working on its own. How could this woman actually know the name of his father? This crazy drunk woman was just saying random names, right? She couldn't possibly actually know his father's name.
"Oh, he was such a nice man," Ruby said, sighing pleasurably. "You look just like him."
"Ma'am, I think your cab is here," Gan said, glancing outside and hoping the headlights he saw were the cab's.
"Oh, come on. Answer the question."
"You never asked one."
"Your father's name is Apisi, right?" Ruby asked excitedly.
"No, it's not," Gan replied. "You need to leave."
Ruby frowned, looking over at her purse. "Oh, it's just... I... I was just...," she sighed and pulled her billfold out to leave a tip for Gan. "Did I ever even pay?" Gan shook his head and she glanced at the check. She grabbed her debit card and handed it to him. Gan left to pay for her bill and then came back. "I'm sorry, Gan," Ruby said. "I was just kind of hoping... This man and I, well, we were together for a very short while. He still sometimes writes to me and I got a letter from him a few weeks back and I was just..." She sighed again. "I was just hoping that maybe I'd finally found... Well, forget it. It doesn't matter."
Ruby drunkenly got out of her seat and started slowly walking towards the door. Gan watched her, uncertain of what exactly he should do in that moment. His mind was still trying to wrap itself around the idea that he could have possibly found his mother, but still he couldn't believe it. It may have been the main reason he had come to Miduna Beach in the first place, but he had long given up on the hope of ever finding her. It had to be impossible. Still, with everything she had said that night, he just had to find out, but he couldn't bring himself to it.
Groaning, Gan started to walk to the back of the restaurant as he heard the door slam shut behind Ruby. He looked back towards her booth to grab the tip she had left him, when he noticed she had left her purse in her seat. Knowing exactly what he was going to do, he grabbed the purse and started to head outside to give it back to her. However, the cab had already left the restaurant and he was stuck outside in the freezing cold with the purse of a woman who could possibly be his mother. Gan groaned loudly and turned back towards the store. He went inside and told the assistant manager about the purse and how the lady had left it. The assistant manager looked through the billfold to see if he could find any contact information about how to get in touch with the woman. They found a cell phone number and called it. It was her husband's number and he answered immediately. The assistant manager told Gan that her husband would be there in about a half hour to pick up the purse and that he could go home. Gan instead insisted that he wanted to stay to personally give it to the man.
After waiting for half an hour, Emmett finally arrived at the restaurant and Gan recognized him immediately. "Hello, sir, are you Emmett Moore?" Gan asked.
"That's me. I'm here to pick up my wife's purse," Emmett replied grumpily.
"Of course. I'm really sorry about this. She had a few drinks and I guess she just completely forgot about everything. She was... She was distracted," Gan told him.
"Did she bother you in anyway?" Emmett asked.
"Um, well... She was... She was definitely interesting," Gan responded, not sure what exactly to say about the encounter.
"God, she was talking a bunch of nonsense. Sometimes she gets stupid ideas in her head and she just rambles about them all day. I swear, if she bothered you, I'll leave you a nice tip to make up for it all."
"It's fine, I promise," Gan said. "It wasn't bad."
Emmett sighed and shook his head. "Still can't believe she got drunk. What the hell was she thinking?" he muttered under his breath, beginning to leave the restaurant.
"Um, sir," Gan said, catching his attention before Emmett left. "I, um, can you tell your wife something for me?" he asked.
"It's the least I could do for how she probably acted tonight," Emmett responded, turning back towards Gan.
"Could you tell her that... that she's right? Just let her know that she's right about what all she said tonight."
Emmett raised his eyebrow and looked Gan over for a few seconds. He slowly nodded his head. "I can do that," he replied. "As weird of a request as it is."
"Thank you," Gan said as Emmett left the restaurant and headed back home. Gan stood there, hoping that maybe he had been able to find his mother. He had her name because of her signature on the check. Still, he really knew nothing about this woman except for a few little drunk ramblings she had said. He could only hope he wasn't making a silly mistake.
Meanwhile, Emmett made his way back home and found Ruby still dressed from her day clothes and asleep on their bed. He went over and was about to wake her, but decided it could wait till the morning - if she could even wake up the next morning. The night went by and the sun rose the next day. Emmett woke up to hear Ruby groaning about a headache she had. He shook his head and told her to just call in sick. She nodded her head and went ahead and did that. Later that day, Emmett came back home from work early just so he could try to make up for skipping dinner with her the day before.
"Hey, honey," he said as he got back home. Ruby was resting on the couch and watching a soap opera that was on TV, since there was really nothing else to watch at the time.
"Hey," she said, waving at him.
Emmett walked over and sat down in front of the couch. He leaned his head back against her; her hands mindlessly began playing with his hair. "Sorry about yesterday," he said. "I decided to get off work early to make it up for you."
"It's fine," she said. "I just did a lot of stupid things anyway. Probably a good thing you weren't there to see it."
"If I had been there, you probably wouldn't have done any of it."
"Very true," she said, rolling her eyes and laughing.
"I feel awful about that," he told her. "I swear I won't leave today. The rest of the day is all about you."
"Until our son shows up."
"What if I said I got my brother to take care of him for the night?"
She laughed. "Sounds excellent."
"Oh yeah, I have something important to tell you."
"Oh?"
"I'm sure you remember that boy, Gan."
Ruby groaned and nodded her head. "That poor man. I was absolutely awful. I went off asking him questions about where he was from and the name of his father and... It was not pretty."
"Right, well he wanted me to tell you something," Emmett said.
"Oh god."
"He just wanted me to tell you that you were right about everything you had said."
