Trey was born in Miduna Beach as the youngest child of three, with a five year age gap between him and his sister Michaela, and a seven year one with his brother, Jacob. Naturally, his older siblings got on better with each other than they did with him, leaving Trey to spend more time with his mother. While his dad was working and his siblings were at school, he would keep his mother company while she stayed at home. The two of them developed a very strong bond, spending more time together alone than she had spent with either of her other children.
Despite being slightly isolated from his siblings and rarely seeing his father, things were going pretty well for Trey. That is, up until one night when his dad left in the middle of the night, leaving behind almost all of his possessions and a note that said not to find him. No one really knew where his disappearance came from, but it hit the family hard. Jacob, who was almost ready to start his senior year of high school. He made the decision instead to work and help his mom pay the bills. Trey spent less time with his mom, and more time being 'babysat' by his sister, who spent most of the time with boys she'd invited over. Quietly, Trey watched as the boys would treat her horribly, calling her dumb and a whore and all kinds of bad words, yet she still invited them back around each week. He also noticed her crying whenever she thought no one was looking, and after a while, he promised his mother that he would never leave the person he loves or make them feel bad about themselves. Michaela laughed weakly at his promise, telling him that he was just being dumb and naïve.
He started high school, befriending a group of quiet kids similar to him, and he grew to love their company. However, as he grew older and started going through puberty, he started to prefer the company of more outgoing, social people. He still remained loyal to his original friend, but he started to divide his attention amongst them and his new friends. Thanks to his brother buying him alcohol, Trey became fairly popular at parties, and he spent his weekends there instead of studying or working like his sister had started to do. His brother moved out when Trey was sixteen after accidentally getting his girlfriend pregnant and deciding to move in with her and the baby, but he still visited regularly.
His sister also encountered an accidental pregnancy when Trey was seventeen, however, given the circumstances, she felt quite relieved when she miscarried eight weeks in, considering the baby's dad was arrested three weeks after it was conceived for assault charges. Trey still remained optimistic about relationships, however, and in his senior year he met a girl named Shelley Forsyth. He didn't know how much impact she would have on him when he met her, so he flirted with her anyway. He continued until flirtation turned in to kissing, which led to sex, which led to dating. They somehow managed to maintain that relationship even though she was planning on going to college after graduating and he was nowhere near smart enough or rich enough to afford a luxury like college. Instead, after high school, Trey got jobs, first working as a plumber with his brother's plumbing company, then getting a second job as a barista, and continuing to pick up whatever job he needed to be able to buy Shelley nice things.
Unfortunately, Trey remained blissfully unaware of just how shallow Shelley was, and although his friends (and his sister) tried to warn him off her, he continued to date her, claiming that it didn't matter because they were in love. Or at least he was. Shelley was in love with the adoration she received, and she had no plans of settling down and pursuing a future with him. She made this especially clear on a trip to Fiji which Trey paid for. Trey had planned out everything, kids, a house, a dog and a big fancy wedding with a marriage that would last until they were old and grey. Shelley finally admitted that she wasn't interested in the sort of future he was after while he was down on one knee with the most expensive ring in his price range. They tried the best to enjoy the rest of their trip, very unsuccessfully, and after they returned home, they announced to everyone that it was over, and that Shelley probably wouldn't be around anymore.
After taking a little while to deal with the heartbreak, Trey decided to move out and start fresh, sharing an apartment with his friend, Jasper and upgrading from barista to flare bartender. He cut his hair off, he sold his engagement ring and he started focusing his time on other things, like spending time with his nieces and nephew, and coaching his nephew's soccer team. He fought harder and harder to get her out of his mind, and he eventually succeeded, thinking about her very rarely, often wondering what she was up to and if she was with another guy like him.
